The History of the Endeavour Sir Thomas Sopwith’s plans to campaign Endeavour against Rainbow in the 1934 America’s Cup were frustrated just ten days short of the planned Atlantic crossing when her professional crew withdrew their services over a pay dispute. Sopwith’s friend, ‘Tiny’ Mitchell, Commodore of the Royal Corinthian Yacht Club, helped him form an amateur crew from amongst its members and thus the race between Endeavour and Rainbow became part of RCYC's heritage.
