Burnham Gold Cup 2012
Saturday 5th to Monday 7th May 2012
The weather forecast of cold damp conditions with a cool northerly F4 breeze didn't deter four visitors from attending the three day bank holiday Gold Cup Regatta. This event is always held in Burnham and is the first of the National Squib Travellers' Series and for this year only, the 707 fleet joined us on the race course for their Eastern Area Championship, our other local race officer having other commitments.
New Squib Buoys
Thursday 3rd May 2012
The Squib's new buoys have arrived and are ready to go. They are bigger than I anticipated, they’re the diameter of the dumpy buoys but six feet high. I have put them next to one of the Dragon’s marks to give you a size comparison - bear in mind that we’ve always talked about the Dragon marks as 'the big marks'. No more...
Training Weekend
Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th April 2012
The Squib Fleet once again welcomed Adam Bowers to the club for an action packed weekend of sail training. The event was well attended with twelve Squibs taking part. The format is very simple, classroom theory followed by practical exercises that in turn are followed by shore based de-briefing including watching the video recordings of our masterful manoeuvres and crazy misjudgements.
Squibs at Easter 2012
Friday 6th to Monday 9th April 2012

Triumph for Tribe!
Tuesday 3rd April 2012
You probably missed Steve Tribe's triumph! He was the only person to get the right time for the Squib start on Saturday and so beat the Commodore, who was an hour late. There was some confusion the night before about start times because half the room thought the starts went to their normal time after the clocks leapt forward whilst others thought the Dragons had a 'special' time...
2011 Squib Annual Report
Saturday 12th November 2011
The Squibs had a contrasting year as the travellers were highly successful but the stay at home
fleet participated less frequently. The challenge remains to keep local numbers up whilst the
pursuit of another National champion continues.
Squib Last Chance Regatta
Saturday 22nd October 2011
The Squibs' Last Chance Regatta took place on Saturday in near perfect conditions. RCYC Squibs at the Nationals

In a fleet of 69 boats, Nigel Grogan (105 Helmut Shoing II) with crew Daniel Cripps registered his first ever championship race win in Race One when the arrival of the sea breeze allowed him to roll past Malcolm Hutchings and Andy Ramsey (819 Lady Penelope) who had led the race throughout.

Last Chance Regatta
17th & 18th October 2009
Once again, the pleasant October weather and excitement of windward/leeward racing made the Last Chance Regatta a fantastic event and enticed ten Squibs to relaunch after the National Inland Championships. Visitors Dave White & Peter Ballam in Easy 83 won all five races and the Mike Flint Trophy, sponsored by Colman Coyle LLP. In a revised format to avoid conflict with the Dragon mini-series, Race Officer Edwin Buckley managed to get three races completed on Saturday afternoon and a further two on Sunday morning before the wind died away.
The Cheeseboard Trophy

My First Try at the Squib Nationals
Monday 20th July 2009
It was only because I finished the school term early after completing my GCSEs, that made it possible to enter the Squib Nationals. My dad only entered on the Wednesday before so it was all a bit of a rush as we checked the forecast was okay before heading to Weymouth taking the last (108th) place.
Squib Gold Cup

Squib Class Captain's 2008 Report
Friday 28th November 2008
It has been very much a celebratory year for the Squib fleet as we recognised the 40th birthday of the Squib design, which was originally conceived and built in Burnham by Oliver Lee. It is an amazing fact but not entirely a coincidence that this year the RCYC Squib fleet grew to an astonishing 40 boats, a real credit to the appropriateness of a two-man open keel boat for club racing and cruising...
Squibs in Burnham Week
Saturday 23rd - Saturday 30th August 2008
The largest fleet at Burnham Week was once again the Squibs with 23 boats and 56 various crew combinations. The quality of the fleet produced
seven different winners across the nine races with the weeks' points winner still open entering the final race. The number of entrants ensured everyone had their own boat to boat battles and a lively social calendar gave lots of opportunity for incidents to be discussed and enjoyed.
New Boats for Old!
Friday 13th June 2008
The organisers of the Squib 40th Regatta in June excelled themselves in their efforts to offer a brand new race-ready squib as a raffle prize... Long standing RCYC member Nic Tolhurst flew back from skippering a yacht in the Carribean to take part in the event, and ended up going home with more than he bargained for!

Maximus wins the Squib Gold Cup
5th, 6th and 7th May 2007
Local boats clearly demonstrated that they have benefited from the early season training delivered by our own Paul Manning and Squib technical guru, Tony Saltonstall. Malcolm Hutchins and Sarah Hastwell, Lady Penelope, led the fleet into the final race of the six race series and might have had the series sown up if not for a spinnaker failure in the last race of Sunday.
Squib 'Last Chance' Regatta
21st & 22nd October 2006
Once again the Squib Last Chance Regatta had the desired affect of getting Squib owners to re-launch their boats after the Inland Championships at Rutland and sail the club autumn series followed by this event. Eleven boats entered for the weekend despite very strong winds being forecast for the two days, earlier in the week.

The 11 strong entry of Burnham based boats won the prize for the largest visiting fleet at Fishbourne on the Isle of Wight, which was impressively hosted by the Royal Victoria Yacht Club. In a week that saw the full trickery of the Solent winds and the associated exasperation of several competitors, Peter Marchant & Andy Biddle in Tears for Fears were top Burnham boat with a highly commendable 6th overall.
