RCYC Burns Night

Monday 26th January 2009

Our regular piper, Iain, standing at the head of the staircase, called everyone to the dining room with his fine piping, to enjoy a Scottish feast.

Dean, our Chef, paraded the great Haggis around the dining room, led by the piper and to the applause of the diners.

The traditional address to the 'wee beastie' was then given by Steve, when he struck it a mighty blow with his dirk (Scottish dagger) to ensure it was laid to rest. Traditional Haggis, tatties and neaps with 'the Gravy', (miniature bottle of Famous Grouse Scotch Whisky) was served, followed by Scottish Roast Beef, a fine meal much enjoyed by all. Throughout dinner Iain kept everyone entertained with his pipes, recorder and tin whistle.

Traditional verse of the Bard was delivered by Steve Jones and Paul Graves. Mick Hill proposed the toast to the lassies and Annie Reid made the reply on their behalf. Song sheets made sure everyone could join in the sing-along to the pipes with traditional numbers such as 'The Skye Boat Song'. A great evening was enjoyed by all who attended.
