Open Training Day Saturday 18th May

Thirteen boats took advantage of the Open Training Day at the Corinthian Otters on Saturday 18th May. Chris Videlo together with Nick Sutton, Katie & Sam Barr gave some high quality coaching in preparation for the following day's Open Meeting & the following weekend's Indicator. Everyone came off the water very satisfied with the hints & tips they had received about sailing on such a tidal venue.

Otter Open Meeting Sunday 19th May

It was hoped that the good weather we had experienced at the training would hold for the Sunday of the Open Meeting. This it did although the wind could have been a little stronger. A high quality fleet of twenty Cadets with no fewer than four of the soon to be unveiled world's team arrived to compete in the Otter Cadet Open 2013. The furthest travelled competitors were Alex Colquit & Ella Marston from West Kirby SC.

It was hoped that the conditions would (as in last year's event) allow for five races. Unfortunately the unusually fickle wind only allowed for four races but in such difficult conditions PROs Edwin Buckley & Kim Allen are to be congratulated for achieving what they did. It should also be noted that the constantly shifting wind saw Sam Barr in the mark-laying RIB lifting and dropping every mark in every race!

The event was hotly contested with a spread of only 10 points covering the top nine boats, and no one boat winning more than one race.

In the last race there were only two points between the top three boats. Unfortunately for Jack Shorter and Adam Lloyd of the Otters, a 7th in the last race left them in 2nd overall and it was Sam Yale & Harry Chatterton of Waldringfield SC who secured the Schoolboy Trophy by one point from Jack & Adam with Henry Stone & Hattie Collingridge also from Waldringfield in 3rd place.

Once again an excellent event which would not be possible without the support of our Cadet Parents – thanks to all of you.
