The talk on the Club balcony was whether Corpo Santo could continue its winning streak in the current series with John back on board.
After choosing the correct shore to sail up to No.11, once all five boats had rounded No.3 at the same time, Corpo was looking very good. However, Corsair showed a good turn of speed on the first leg with three boats choosing the South Shore; this allowed the Waples brothers to take the North. The intensity of the chase was evident and at the second leg rounding Corpo Santo allowed Cormorant to sneak past and take the lead. Coralie, having taken the South Shore when rounding the 1st mark in the lead, was able to view from afar, kindly pointed out that the favourable lift and pressure up to the mark must have been quite handy for Cormorant!
It was far from over and on the next run the sea breeze was building which meant Corpo Santo and Coralie were never far behind and chasing Cormorant hard; covering both proving impossible as both the North and South shore options were taken by them. The final positions were Cormorant, Corpo Santo, Coralie, followed by Coriander and Corsair.
The good news is that the Class is getting ready for the Regatta on the 22nd/23rd July and we’re hoping for a full turnout of ten boats for what promises to be a fun Regatta. Four river courses on the Saturday and three windward/leeward races on the Sunday, with the Club’s Summer Party very conveniently squeezed in on the Saturday evening for everyone to enjoy.
