"The Dragon mini series comprises of four races lasting around 45 minutes each and provides short, sharp, competitive racing" - this description was fitting for Saturday's competition and proved many topics for discussion in the bar after racing.
September often brings great conditions for racing on the river Crouch and whilst a lack of breeze led to a longer than expected breakfast coffee in the wet bar, the six boat fleet were all away in time for a midday start under Edwin Buckley's efficient race team.
A breeze struggling to set from the south-east combined with a strong flood tide, resulted in close fleet racing and helped create many tactical upwind and downwind duals.
A strong performance from team Wade (Mark, Mandy and James) gave Avalanche pole position in race one, two and three and first overall in the mini series.
The Dragon fleet were delighted to welcome Daniel and Kirsty Wastnage to their numbers. Daniel and Kirsty's performance on the day suggest they will be contenders for line honours at future events.
