On Saturday, 22nd September the Cruisers took advantage of a weather window to hold their Closing Muster. Zelda (Chris Nolan and Dave Bounds), Emma Jane (Tom Keeper and Pete Dwyer), Voyager (Simon and Sarah Sanders with Anne and Arthur Heasley) and Sanderling (John Waterhouse) cruised to Fambridge with the Club RIB (Mark Eagling) in attendance. They were joined in the Ferry Boat Inn by the complements of Girl Friday, Good Hope, Sprite, Lucy Lee, Spangle and Verlette, having arrived by road.
After a fine meal, we parted company. Zelda, Verlette, Voyager, Sanderling and Emma Jane formed up on the Fambridge start line to race back to Burham in a light Westerly wind.
Verlette (Steve Barham) took an early lead followed by Voyager, Zelda, Sanderling and Emma Jane. The wind died completely as we sailed along Easter Reach, and the fleet drifted with the tide around Black Point towards the finish. Verlette took line and race honours with a fine victory in tricky conditions.
I’d like to thank all those who attended for making the event so enjoyable, and to say a special thanks to Mark Eagling who waited for over an hour and a half in the rain to time in the finishers.
